White Lilies Island
by Natalie Imbruglia, pop (2001)
RCA, ASIN B00005Q2WV

The hype that follows this album is "Remember Torn?" Ah, Torn, it's such a perfect pop song. Natalie Imbruglia's follow-up to her debut smash Left To The Middle after four years of... uhm, what did she do in those four years anyway? Still, she's back with White Lilies Island.

First single That Day is no Torn, but it is a lovely piece of almost poetic rigmarole, a catchy piece for a song that has no chorus, a run on style of rambling rather than singing, and a most boring music video. It's a great start to a party of songs that follow the rock-lite formula of Left To The Middle. Stand-out tracks include Wrong Impression, Talk In Tongues, and Beauty On The Fire .The gem here is the three minutes plus fun and sexy romp that is Satellite, a playful tune with a gentle, singalong chorus.

White Lilies Island doesn't break any new grounds, except maybe cementing Natalie Imbruglia's reputation as the Neighbours star who wanted to be a less angry Alanis Morissette, as opposed to the other Neighbours alumni member Kylie Minogue who went on to become... never mind.
